Asian Cuisine Article of the Year |
This award seeks to recognise a journalist or a group of journalists based in any of the 5 participating countries (Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand) who have written an outstanding article, which reflects and promotes the quality, variety and vibrancy of Asian cuisine. The focus of the article should be on the cuisine itself and not a chef or a restaurant.
Examples of Asian cuisine include:
- Chinese - Indonesian - Indian - Japanese
- Malay - Vietnamese / Cambodian - Thai - Korean
- Peranakan - Filipino
The submitted article must be published in any English
print or electronic medium (magazine, newspapers) for
the first time in any of the above participating countries
between 2 November 2004 and 1 November 2005. |

Daven Wu was a corporate lawyer in Australia before he saw the light and traded in the time sheets for a life of freelance writing. Since then, he has written for Four Seasons, Asiaweek, Wallpaper*, Black+White, Vogue Living Australia, Orient Express, Destinasian, American Express and Priority covering food, travel, lifestyle trends and architecture. He is now based in Singapore.

Eight years in Thailand has added spice to Sue Farley’s 25-year career in food and wine. Farley began her culinary career in San Francisco, working with Mary Risley founder of Tante Marie’s Cooking School. While at Christian Brothers she planned, executed and directed “Destination Bangkok,” an international event and cooking school attended by over 150 key wine and food professionals, and consumers. Following the sale of the winery, Farley was recruited by Napa Valley College in 1991 to create the Napa Valley Cooking School - Professional Training for Fine Restaurants. Cuisine of the Sun is Bangkok’s only cooking school featuring all modern western cuisine classes for Thais and foreigners alike. In addition Farley is consulting to restaurants from full concept to staff-training. She also writes articles on food and wine for a variety of Asian based publications

Journalist of Flavours, Malaysia, Sharon Tan is one who has an apt weakness – for food. One who loves to eat and cook Asian food, Tan has great ambitions; such as to one day write a book on the dishes of the yesteryear, of food that her grandmother’s generation used to enjoy.
