How many scholarships are offered under Awards of Excellence Scholarship Programme in 2013?
There are five experiential scholarships offered this year:
- Acqua Panna Hospitality Scholarship
- At-Sunrice GlobalChef Academy and Johnson & Wales University Culinary Scholarship
- Meat & Livestock Australia Culinary Appreciation Programme
- Valrhona Pâtisserie Scholarship
- Paul Jaboulet Aîné & Château La Lagune Wine Scholarship
Who is eligible to apply for the Awards of Excellence Scholarships?
Applicants must be between 18-29 years of age. The scholarships are open to current students and graduates of the food & beverage (F&B), culinary-related courses or individuals who are working in the F&B industry. Applicants must have a minimum of 6 months of commercial F&B-related experience. This includes internship experiences. Interested applicants who are currently in National Service may also apply.

What is the assessment process like?
Assessment Process
Phase 1
Written Assessment |
All applicants who has submitted their scholarship application form with all the neccessary supporting documents will automatically qualify to sit for the written assessment on 12 January 2013, Saturday. Highest ranking candidates scores will be selected to advance on to Phase 2 and 3. |
Phase 2
Practical Assessment |
Candidates are required to prepare two dishes (one appetiser and one main course) in a simulated restaurant environment on 2 March 2013, Saturday. |
Phase 3
Final Interview |
An interview session will be conducted by industry experts on 2 March 2013, Saturday to assess candidate’s suitability in terms of personality and ambassadorship. |
Awards Ceremony |
Winners for the 5 scholarships will be announced on 16 March 2013, Saturday |
What costs are included in the scholarship?
Return air tickets and accommodation.
What costs are not included in the scholarship?
Living expenses for the duration of scholarship stint e.g. meal and transport allowances.
What is expected of the scholarship recipients?
As part of guidelines, the scholar may be required to be in contact with aspects of meat production (poultry, lamb, pork and beef) and alcohol production as part of scholarship curriculum. In addition to this, they are expected to work to the best of their ability, should constantly strive for excellence.
